Abstract: | Enhancement of ride comfort of a driver is a significant task in automotive suspension design. Driver comfort is an indispensable phenomenon since it deals with the life of co-passengers travelling in the vehicle and also the safety of the goods loaded in it. Discomfort in the driver cabin may increase the possibility of accidents or difficulties in terms of vehicle handling. The suspension system must be capable of providing vibration attenuation during road undulations, bump and pits exist in road surfaces for avoiding such life-threatening activities. There are plenty of researches currently being conducted both in academia and industries, focusing on adoption of a dynamically variable alternative suspension systems that can replace the passive or conventional suspension systems. newlineA decade of research in the automotive suspension system has seen the proposal of an active and semi-active suspension systems are proposed as a dynamically variable alternative suspension system for improving the vehicle ride comfort. But, developments of an effective controller for these advanced suspensions constitute a trivial task in the automotive industry. Despite the active suspension system being relatively high enough to attenuate the road vibrations compared to passive suspension system, active suspension requires a large amount of external power to actuate and at the time any controller failure in the system it cannot provide a fail-proof system like semi-active suspension system. newline newline |
