dc.description.abstract | newline ABSTRACT newlinePeri-urbanization is the movement of goods, services, money, and labour around newlineurban centres. The distribution of goods and services also plays a role in periurbanization. newlineCommodities and services moving between rural and urban areas define a newlinesociety or region from many perspectives. Assessing basic infrastructure is critical to plan newlineand managing the development in the peri-urban area. Regardless, the peri-urban zone is newlinea transition zone between urban and rural areas. Peri-urban areas are ideal for urban newlinedevelopment due to strong social and economic ties. newlineInadequate city planning, poor environmental management, land control issues, and newlinestagnant investment plague peri-urban areas. Policymakers and other stakeholders rarely newlineconsider positive land-use changes in peri-urban areas. It is possible to use science and newlinetechnology to build inclusive infrastructure on the outskirts of cities. As cities grow, newlinepopulation growth, public infrastructure, and general well-being are increasingly treated newlineseparately. In peri-urban areas, urban and rural uses frequently collide. These areas may newlinesoon become entirely urban. newlineHow do the different sectors of physical infrastructure services of peri-urban areas newlineof Tier-II cities vary within the same peri-urban area? newlineFive such peri-urban areas have been selected based on their distance from the city newlinecore in the city of Lucknow. The city of Lucknow is a multi-nuclei urban area; hence the newlinedistances of the peri-urban areas considered in this research is the shortest distance from newlinethe nearest urban nuclei. They are Sarsawan, Kakori, Bakshi Ka Talab, Gosaiganj and newlineMohanlalganj which are 11 km, 14 km, 16 km, 21 km and 25 km away from their newlinerespective urban core (nuclei). newlineThese basic service infrastructures vary from place to place in an urban core or the newlineoutskirts of a metropolitan area. Physical infrastructure services, namely: water supply, newlinesanitation, waste management, stormwater management, public lighting, are considered newlinefor this research.
