Abstract: | From the past decades, employees especially teaching staff are considered as an important asset to any institution, wherein, making them feel secure and sustain them for longer duration to contribute towards the institution s success and achieving its goals and objectives with loads of efficiency and effectiveness. Performance Appraisal and Rewards systems have a critical role in determining the institutions ability to attract high potential employees especially teaching staffs and help to retain high performing staffs to achieve greater levels of quality and performance in the institution. Performance Appraisal and Rewards includes all types of benefits, from cash payments to other working conditions in the institution, wherein, it also considers the non- monetary aspects. Institutions offer intrinsic and extrinsic rewards to staffs for the purpose of improving human resources outcomes. There is always an argument among the experts and the management to decide on which appraisal and reward system is more appropriate and effective to improvise the quality of institution and retain the quality teaching staffs in the institution. In this research, an effort is made to study the performance appraisal system of teaching staff members in private first grade colleges in Mysore district. Various components affecting the newlineperformance appraisal system were examined and overall faculty satisfaction is measured. 500 samples working at different private aided, unaided, and autonomous institutions of Mysore district, Karnataka state were collected for study. A well-structured questionnaire was developed for data collection and analysed using Descriptive and Inferential statistics. In this study, various components influencing performance appraisal were identified and improvements were suggested. The research findings conclude that scientific and modern methods of performance appraisal system are to be followed for a productive output. newline |
