Abstract: Water is the elixir of life, without it, the existence of life on earth turns out to be uncertain. After the industrial revolution, the industrial waste polluted the water, land, and the total environment. Industrial pollutants also affect living organisms, primarily through water bodies. Hence, water pollution is a major threat to the world, which affects the survival of life on earth. Photocatalysis is an effective way to remove the pollutants discharged from industrial wastes in comparison to other methods. Photocatalysis removes harmful dyes from effluents discharged from textile industries, in particular. Currently, many researchers are working on the applications of nanomaterials for photocatalytic degradation of dyes. However, the nanomaterials might exhibit acute toxicity to living organisms as the smaller particle sizes ease the accumulation in living organisms. Thus, extensive research activities are required to find novel, ecofriendly, and cost-effective photocatalysts. newline
