dc.description.abstractnewline In the world of digitization and advances in technologies, image processing plays a prime role to detect and treat diseases using Computer Aided Diagnostic systems. Image processing constitutes of various phases in analyzing an image and bring out the crucial information from the medical images. Image segmentation is a part of the image processing activity which identifies the region of interest in the medical image. The success of a good segmentation technique depends on the quality of the picture and the knowledge in identifying the region sets in the image. The quality of the image is enhanced using filters for noise removal, contrast improvement mechanism as well. The fast life style of humans needs faster mechanism for analyzing the image for offering a better treatment strategy and early detection of the disease. Image segmentation is widely used for many diagnosing activities especially cancer detection because of the vast development in the mechanisms adopted in this technique. From manual segmentation to semi-automated image segmentation process, now the development is turning towards fully automated with noninvasive procedures to aid medical experts. These automated processes are indispensable in assisting the radiologist and doctors to formulate the course of action.
