Abstract: Alternating Current (AC) to AC power converters of different configurations are required in various industrial applications. AC to AC power conversion systems are also used in renewable energy based electricity generation systems, power transmission and distribution systems. An AC to AC power converter is required to transform the amplitude, frequency and phase of the incoming power. Time ratio controllers and cycloconverters are also come under the category of AC to AC power conversion systems. Three phase to three phase, single phase to three phase and three phase to six phase converters are also used in the industries. However, the three phase to three phase matrix converters are the popular and widely used. A power electronic converter meant for power conversion from AC to AC may have a Direct Current (DC) link or an AC link in between the input and the output sides. The matrix converters do not use any intermediate storage system between the input and the output sides. The AC to AC converters with an intermediate stage with a DC or AC link has certain advantages than the matrix converters. Particularly, the high frequency AC link converters offer some additional advantages over the DC link converters. Some of the advantages with the AC link power converters are that they offer a high voltage step up feature by including a transformer and they provide galvanic isolation between the source and the load sides. In the proposed idea a Partial Resonant Inverter (PRI) is used and a high frequency AC link is generated. The high frequency AC link uses a parallel Inductor-Capacitor (LC) circuit instead of a transformer. The advantages of having the parallel LC circuit for forming the AC link are that the voltage gain is high, isolation between the source and the load sides without a transformer, reduced size, weight and cost. newline
