Abstract: TITLE: PREVALENCE AND TYPE OF ROOT CANAL ISTHMUS AND THE EFFICIENCY OF IRRIGANT ACTIVATION TECHNIQUES ON E.FEACALIS BIOFILM IN ROOT CANAL ISTHMUS newline newlineAim and purpose of the study were, newline1. To systematically assess the available literature on the anatomy and morphology of the RCI newline2. To determine the prevalence of RCI in Indian population using Cone beam computed tomography scans. newline3. Micro computed tomographic evaluation of root canal isthmi in mandibular molars from an Indian sub-population. newline4. Current Trends in the use of irrigant activation techniques among endodontist and post-graduate dental students in India -A knowledge, attitude and practice-based survey. newline5. To develop a new tooth model and to evaluate the efficacy of the IAT devices on the biofilm present in RCI. newline6. Evaluation of accumulated hard tissue debris removal in mandibular molars using micro-CT: a systematic review and network meta-analysis. newline newlineResults and Conclusion newlineThe root canal isthmi is often very complex and extends in the corono-apical direction. It is very commonly seen in the mesial roots of mandibular molars and mesiobuccal root of maxillary molars. newlineThe micro-ct investigation revealed the isthmi to be complex and extending in the corono-apical direction. The survey amongst Indian endodontist revealed, most of them used some form of irrigant activation technique (IAT). Manual dynamic activation and passive ultrasonic activation were the most commonly used agitation methods used. newlineA new tooth model was developed to evaluate the effect of different irrigant activation techniques on the biofilm in root canal isthmus. Passive ultrasonic irrigation and Endo activator techniques showed better anti-biofilm action in RCI when compared to syringe needle irrigation. The systematic review on removal of accumulated hard tissue debris(AHTD) revealed that, none of the IATs eliminate the AHTD completely from the RCI. newline newline
