Abstract: Energy harvesting from renewable sources becomes an emerging trend in electrical power generation market. Solar energy, available in abundance, is used as a major source for power production across the globe. Unfortunately, the intermittency and unreliability are the inherent challenges affecting the efficiency of solar power. However, the aforementioned shortcomings can be dealt with the advancements in Energy Storage Systems (ESS), which requires design and development of an interface power converter to integrate ESS with solar photovoltaic (PV) system. As these converters need to extract maximum energy from the source and manage power flow among its ports, the multiport converters are more suitable for this application. They replace conventional multistage two-port converters for their specific advantages of higher power density and efficiency. Though many multiport topologies have been proposed in literature on bidirectional power control for ESS, the power flow control between the regenerative load and ESS are very limited. The reason for that may be attributed to the complexity in implementation and control of bidirectional converters in the load port. newline
