Abstract: Image processing is the sequence of steps used in handling digital images for specific newlineapplications. Depending on the task at hand, this sequence may involve stages newlinelike image capture, pre-processing, segmentation, and higher analysis. No clear newlinedistinction is drawn in literature between computer vision and image processing. newlineImage processing is a ubiquitous technology in today s world. Many of the realworld intelligent utilities rely significantly on image processing in the pipeline. Image newlineanalysis applications depend heavily on good pre-processing and segmentation in newlineinitial stages of the image processing chain. This thesis contributes novel techniques newlineto these fundamental stages of digital image processing. newline
