Some Synthetic Transformation of Functionalized Lactams Bis Chalcones and Cyclopropanes

Abstract

The research work embodied in this thesis involves the synthesis of functionalized lactams and their careful transformations to useful heterocycles by and#946;-lactam synthon methodology. The biological applications of functionalized lactams and bis-chalcones have been also explored. Moreover the [3+2+2] variant of carbocyclization using metal complex catalysts have also been explored in this thesis. newlineThe first chapter describes a facile, appropriate and metal free synthetic route for the formation of 4-oxo-dihydro-1H-pyrroles i.e. (4-Oxo-5-(3-aryl-1-aryl/alkylamino-allyl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole-2,3-dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester/ -4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester) in good yields via tandem aza-Michael addition reactions of 3-amino-2-azetidinones with different functionalized acetylenic esters and subsequent intramolecular amidic ring opening of the resulted azetidin-3-ylamino prop/but-2-ene esters. The synthesis of such heterocycles is an important in term of their various biological applications as well as their utility as an organic synthon. newline
