Abstract: Liver is the key organ regulating homeostasis in the body. It is involved with newlinealmost all the biochemical pathways related to growth, fight against diseases, nutrient newlinesupply, energy provision and reproduction. The liver is the key organ of metabolism newlineand is continuously and variedly exposed to xenobiotics, environmental pollutants, newlineand chemotherapeutic agents. The liver is expected not only to perform physiological newlinefunctions but also to protect the hazards of harmful drugs and chemicals. The newlinemanifestations of drug-induced hepatotoxicity are highly variable, ranging from newlineasymptomatic elevation of liver enzymes to fulminant hepatic failure. Carbon newlinetetrachloride (CCl4) is a well-known hepatotoxin and exposure to this chemical is newlineknown to induce oxidative stress and causes tissue injury. In the present study, the newlinemedicinal value of chosen plant, Azima tetracantha Lam was evaluated. The present newlinestudy was undertaken to evaluate the possible hepatoprotective and antioxidant role of newlineAzima tetracantha Lam ethanolic leaves extract (ATELE) in carbon tetrachloride newlineinduced hepatotoxcity in rats. newline
