Abstract

One of the most important problems in the developed countries is the inadequate Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM) system which does not satisfy the expectation due to the rapid population growth and lack of appropriate infrastructures. Solid waste landfill sites have been a significant issue for local community as they are directly related to soil, water and air pollution. newlineIn order to find a comprehensive solution to the problem of groundwater pollution brought on by the dumping of municipal solid waste, an attempt has been made to address the issue in the proposed study using an integrated approach encompassing many disciplines. By examining the quality of the groundwater, determining the level of groundwater contamination using geophysical methods, choosing an appropriate location for an alternative landfill, and researching current solid waste management practices in Palani Municipal Corporation existing dumpsites environmental problems are evaluated. newline newline
