Abstract: | ABSTRACT newline newlineINTRODUCTION: newlineDelirium is a form of acute brain injury which is experienced by the critically ill patients and the research evidence suggests that a well - planned comprehensive delirium management can minimize the adverse effect of delirium. The objectives were to evaluate the effect of the delirium care bundle on ICU acquired delirium among patients on a mechanical ventilator, evaluate the patient s length of ICU stay and number of days on mechanical ventilator. newlineMATERIALS AND METHODS: newlineRandomized control trial (RCT) design was conducted among 56 mechanically ventilated patients (28 in each arm) with ICU acquired delirium. The tools used Baseline variables, Clinical variables, Richmond agitation sedation scale (RASS), CAM-ICU, Behaviour Pain Scale (BPS), Richards Campbell Sleep Questionnaire (RCSQ), and Manchester Mobility Scale for assessing the delirium among mechanically ventilated patients and the effect of the delirium care bundle. Descriptive and inferential statistical tests were used to analyse and interpret the data. newlineRESULTS: newlineThe findings of the present study has revealed that this delirium care bundle intervention has effectively improved the patient level of orientation, sleep quality , and helped patients in early mobilization , reduced the usage of sedatives , minimized the pain levels , and reduced the utilization of restraints .Moreover, this study has reduced the mean duration of ventilator days , length of ICU stay , and length of hospital stay among the experimental group than the control group (pand#706;0.001). newlineCONCLUSION: newlineAn emerging evidence-based approach is the implementation of delirium care bundles in the prevention of delirium. Based on the current study findings it is evident that implementation of the delirium care bundle among critically ventilated patients is a cost-effective method to enhance multiple positive patient outcomes in critical care units. newline newline |
