Abstract: | quotVALIDATION AND TESTING OF RK BALTECH newlineA BALANCE SENSING DEVICE: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY newline newlineSubmitted By: Shweta Rameshbhai Rakholiya, Ph.D. Scholar, Faculty of Medicine, RK University. newline newlineSupervised By: Prof. (Dr.) Priyanshu V. Rathod, PT, PhD, Professor, School of Physiotherapy; Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC); Dean, Faculty of Medicine, RK University. newline newlineBackground: Most Android-based devices have built-in sensors and can provide raw data with high accuracy and precision, and are useful if you want to monitor the movement of three-dimensional device movements or you want to monitor changes in the vicinity of the device. Such sensors detect movements like tilting, shaking, rotating, or turning. newlineAim: To correlate the RK BalTech (RKB) Device with standard assessment tools Berg Balance Scale and Functional Reach Test in Healthy subjects and subjects with balance problems. newlineMethodology: 50 healthy subjects underwent the Berg Balance Scale, 100 healthy subjects underwent the Functional Reach test, and the same subjects underwent the RK BalTech evaluation. The 30 additional participants with balance problems were assessed using BBS and FRT, and the same individuals were then assessed using an RKB device run by the web server. The data from the device is analyzed using an Android-based smartphone. newlineResults: A positive moderate correlation between FRT and RKB is statistically significant. The sub-components of BBS showed a strong and negative correlation with RKB, except components 8th, 9th and 10th which displayed a strong positive correlation, all statistically significant. Reliability and Validity for BBS are 0.805 and 0.742 respectively and for FRT it is 0.856 and 0.702 respectively. newlineDiscussion: RKB measures tri-axial angular movement to determine the balance performance progression in people with balance problems pre and post-rehabilitation. It simplifies balance assessment in clinical settings, providing valid evaluations in less time than previous methods. newlineConclusion: The RK BalTech is a reliable and valid |
