Investigations into the Nonlinear Optical Magnetic and Visible Light Induced Photocatalytic Properties of KBiFe2O5

Abstract

In recent times, due to rapid industrialization and population explosion, energy crisis and newlineenvironmental pollution have emerged as two major concerns. In the past few decades, research newlineis focused towards production of green energy and pollution free environment. Among the newlinevarious types of environmental pollution, water pollution poses a serious threat to human newlinebeings. Organic pollutants such as dyes discharged from textile industries, paper printing newlineindustries etc. are the major pollutants which contaminate water. These dyes which get newlinedischarged into the environment as effluents are carcinogenic and non-degradable. Therefore, newlinean effective and economically viable technology is essential for treatment of toxic dyes or newlineorganic pollutants in water. In this regard photocatalysis has emerged as an effective and newlinepotential solution towards dye degradation using solar energy and semiconductor materials. newlineVarious semiconductor photocatalysts have been studied towards dye degradation. But, in newlinegeneral, semiconductor photocatalysts suffer from three major drawbacks such as poor light newlineutilization capability due to wider band gap, low specific surface area and rapid recombination newlineof photogenerated electron-hole pairs. newline
