Monitoring and Management of Myocardial Infarction Patients in Resource Limited Settings An Integrated Approach for Bottom of the Pyramid

Abstract

According to World Health Organization (WHO), around 17.9 million people lose their lives newlineglobally due to cardiovascular disease (CVD), which accounts for 32% of the total death newlineworldwide. Of this, greater than 75% of CVD deaths occur in low and middle-income newlinecountries and 85% of such deaths are due to heart attack (myocardial infarction or MI) and newlinestroke. For a country such as India, where 70% of the population resides in rural areas, newlinerepresenting the bottom of the pyramid (BoP), there is a major lacuna in the systematic newlinemonitoring and management of CVD, that presents an integrated emergency health newlinemanagement approach, when properly implemented can minimize deaths due to CVD. newline
