We worship peepal and it is sin to cut it, sacred groves(ORIONS)have newlinea significant religious connotation for the protecting community where hunting and newlinelogging are usually strictly prohibited. newlineIn spite of cultural heritage and decades of conservation efforts India is witnessing newlinelocal extinction. In 1950s it lost Cheetah wipe out due to over hunting and presently newlinewe are witnessing the extinction of Great Indian Bustard (GIB)1 mainly due to newlineanthropogenic pressure like development, habitat loss, over hunting etc..
