Abstract: | ABSTRACT newlineIntroduction: newlineOral health is neglected when compared to general health in all the population. newlineOral health contributes to the quality of life. It mainly affects the childhood when newlinethe children do not concentrate on their oral health. This led to the arise of School newlinehealth oral education program which incorporates oral health knowledge to the newlinechild. newlineAim: To determine the effectiveness of stop motion video animation technique newlineand pamphlet based technique among 6-12 years of school children in Tiruvallur newlinedistrict. newlineMaterials and Methods: newlineA single blinded, randomized controlled trial was conducted among the school newlinechildren of 6-12 years. Oral health knowledge was assessed using interviewer newlineadministered questionnaire. Oral health status was assessed using WHO Oral newlineHealth Assessment Form (2013), Plaque and gingival status was assessed using newlinemodified plaque and gingival index. Caries experience in a child was assessed newlineusing caries increment index. Descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon signed rank test, newlinefriedman test, Mann-whitney test were done to test if there is a significance in newlinerendering oral health education. newlineResults: Stop motion animation video health education improved the knowledge newlinescore (50.19%) compared to pamphlet based health education. The animation newlineoral health education improved the mean caries experience score compared to newlinepamphlet based oral health education. newline newline newlineConclusion: newlineIn Tamilnadu, Government schools deliver a free education to the children newlineirrespective of their socioeconomic status. Oral health is neglected among the newlineschool age group children which leads to comprise in a child s quality of life. newlineSchool oral health education programs delivers knowledge about oral hygiene newlineand practices and can be effective in modifying the behavior of the children when newlineeducation is given at correct age. Hence school oral health education program newlineshould be implemented and regular visits by the dental professionals can be made newlinefor the betterment of instilling oral health education newline |
