Detection and Classification of Caries in Dental Radiographic Images Using machine Learning Algorithms

Abstract

newline Dental infections have become a common problem worldwide. The WHO newlineGlobal Oral Health Status Report (2022) estimated that oral diseases affect close newlineto 3.5 billion people worldwide, with 3 out of 4 people affected living in middle- newlineincome countries. Hence, diagnosing oral diseases by identifying caries and newlinegiving appropriate treatment for the underlying cause at right time may help to newlinereduce the tooth loss rate. In the present scenario, though various dental imaging newlinemodalities are available for diagnosing dental caries. dental radiograph is mostly newlinepreferred as it is cost effective and less capture time as well. newlineIn diagnostic dental radiograph, periapical and bitewing radiograph is the first newlineand primary choice for diagnosis of caries in teeth. In general, medical experts newlineconsider the visual examination along with the radiographic image newlineinterpretation for their diagnosis and treatments. Also classification of dental newlinecaries is indispensable for the medical experts for subsequent treatment and newlinedecision making.
