Abstract: | newline Chennai, the capital city and one of the urban areas in Tamilnadu has newlinethe major Industrial areas viz. (i) Thiruvottiyur Industrial Area, (ii) Manali newlineIndustrial Area and (iii) Maraimalai Nagar Industrial Area and these newlinedischarge continuous emissions in to the environment through the stacks. newlineThis work describes the studies on the particulate matter PM, PM10 and PM2.5 newlinein stack emission from a few representative industries, due to the combustion in newlineboilers fired with solid fuels (coal, wood and bio mass fuel-husk) / liquid fuels newline(furnace oil, high speed diesel and superior kerosene oil) and diesel generators. newlineThe methodology adopted for particulate matter (PM) is as per IS newlineMeasurement of Emissions from Stationary Sources IS11255; (Part 1) newline(Reaffirmed 2016). The sampling procedure for PM, PM10 and PM2.5 was newlinecarried out as per International USEPA Method 201A. newlineFirst part of the study was related to emission profile of PM, PM10 and newlinePM2.5 from boilers employed in four industries, in small scale sector, with stack newlineheights ranging from 12.5 m to 50.0 m. Boilers that employed super kerosene newlineoil (SKO), and furnace oil (FO) in Tiruvottiyur industrial area, coal fired boiler newlinein Maraimalar industrial area, Chennai and other wood fired boilers (one in newlineRanipet industrial area and another one in Cochin industrial area) were selected newlinefor the above studies. It was observed that the average value of particulate newlinematter (PM) emission was well below the prescribed limits for SKO and FO newlinefired boiler stacks compared with coal fired boiler |
