Abstract: newlineQuantum technologies would be the technology of future. Hence worldwide, most of the newlinenations are behind in the development of new technologies based on quantum science. newlineRecently, Government of India has launched a programme called National Mission on newlineQuantum Technologies and Application to foster the research in quantum communication, newlinequantum simulation, quantum computation, and quantum sensing and meteorology. newlineControl on quantum states is the essential requirement for the development of quantum newlinetechnologies. In fact, it is very difficult to control the quantum states. Quantum newlineOptics, which gives quantum theory of light matter interaction, provides the framework to newlinemanipulate quantum states. With the advancement in technologies in LASER and cavity newlinesystems and knowledge of quantum optics, now it is possible to manipulate single photon newlineor single atom. newlineIn 1963, E.T. Jaynes and F.W. Cummings developed the simplest fully quantum newlinemechanical model of light-matter interaction. It describes the interaction between a newlinesingle-mode field confined to a cavity with a two-level atom, known as the Jaynes newlineCummings Model (JCM). As it is the simplest quantum mechanical model for light-matter newlineinteraction, it is usually considered as the building block of complex quantum optical newlinesystems. In the last six decades, various extensions of this model have been studied newlinetheoretically and experimentally. In 2012, Serge Haroche and David Wineland won the newlineNobel prize for their ground-breaking experimental methods that enable measuring and newlineix newlinex newlinemanipulation of individual quantum systems, which is based on JCM. newlineIndeed, as with most other important models in physics, JCM is invoked in settings newlinethat go far beyond its initial framework. Recently, it is extended to multi-level atoms, newlinemultiple atoms, multi-mode fields, coupled cavity systems, optomechanical systems and newlinesystem with a nonlinear medium.
