Abstract: Background newlineUrinary tract infection (UTI) is defined as the presence of pathogenic newlinemicrobes in urinary tract associated with/without symptoms. The etiology and their newlineantibiogram patterns varies geographically and periodically. Escherichia coli, newlineresponsible for more than 80% of all the UTIs cause both symptomatic and newlineAsymptomatic bacteriuria. Escherichia coli form intracellular bacterial communities newlinewith biofilm-like properties (important virulence factors) within the bladder newlineepithelium. Which can restrict the diffusion of substances and the binding of newlineantimicrobials enclosing them in an extracellular biochemical matrix. newlineAims and Objective newline Comparison of different methods for detection of biofilm production and newlinedifferent virulence genes in Uropathogenic Escherichia coli in a tertiary care newlinecentre . newlineMaterials and Methods newlineAfter obtaining institutional ethical approval, a total of 400 non-repeated newlineclinical isolates Escherichia coli was obtained from patients with UTI from July newline2019 to January 2020 at the National Institute of Medical Science and Research newline(NIMS) Hospital, Jaipur, Rajasthan, from clean catch, mid-stream urine samples newlineobtained from patients attending IPD and OPD suspected for UTI. Bacterial newlineIdentification was carried out by standard microbiological procedure and the newlineresistogram was determined by Kirby Bauer method. Biofilm production was carried newlineby Tissue culture Plate method (gold standard), Tube method, and Congo red agar newlinemethod. PCR Technique was deployed to determined presence/absence of fimH and newlineiutA (biofilm Producing) genes. newlineStatistical analysis newlineStatistical analysis was performed with the SPSS, version 23. The qualitative newlinedata were expressed in proportion and percentages. The difference in proportion was newlineanalyzed by using the chi-square test. Probability P-value lt0.05 was considered newlinestatistically significant. newlineResults newlineA total of 400 Escherichia coli isolates were obtained of which 239 (59.8%) newlineof Escherichia coli were from female and only 161 (40.2%) were from males of all newlineages groups.
