Abstract: Spot friction joining is capturing its importance in many welding newlinefield applications such as automotive and aerospace industries. Joining newlinemetals which are dissimilar that to steel with aluminium is a challenging newlineaspect using spot friction joining process. This process has good newlineadvantage over resistance spot welding, due to non-consumption of newlineelectrode additional weight is not added to the welded joint. In this work, newlinein order to achieve optimized parameters design of experiments was newlineused to justify the process of selecting the parameters and their levels. newlineSquare head tip on the tool was used to perform this experiment with newlineobservation of micro structure at the joint. Parameters like tool speed, newlinedwell time and plunge depth are considered to perform the joint. By using newlinethese parameters spot friction joining was performed for metals placed in newlinelap position to test for larger the better value for high tensile strength and newlinealso the micro structure of these joints was been studied under newlinemicroscope to see the heat effect zones. newlineThe design of welding tool including its structure and metal was newlinecritical for the effective implementation of operation. Different Friction Stir newlineSpot Weld (FSSW) work utilizes various device geometries depending newlineon the welded material and the appropriate process performance. At newlinepresent, tool design is trend in the field of Stir Spot welding. newlineWork piece used in this experiment was AA6062 with AISI 1020 in newlinelap position with placing aluminium on top, the thickness of the sheets newlineare 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7mm individual length was 150 mm and over play newlinelength was 50 mm AA6062 newlineThe shoulder related diameter was 15 mm, 5 mm being height newlinestructure of square and hexagonal tipped tool structure and diameter of newlineshank was 10 mm. newlineTaguchi model was adapted for optimizing the parameters of AA newline6062 and AISI 1020. This model saved time and material because of newlinereduced number of experiments with effective results. newline
