Microstrip antenna or printed antennas are extensively suitable newlinefor modern wireless and mobile communication applications wherein low newlineprofile, lighter weight, lesser price and user-friendly configuration newlinearrangement are of utmost necessity. Limited bandwidth, less gain and newlineefficiency have been the most serious limitations hindering the wider newlineapplications of microstrip antenna technology. Numerous techniques are newlinestated in literature towards addressing the constraints of patch antennas newlinesuch as etching slots on the patch, appropriate feeding, Defected Ground newlineStructure (DGS), using parasitic patches, superstrate structure etc. This newlineresearch work concentrates on expanding the number of working bands, newlinebandwidth and gain of the antenna using DGS and superstrate to meet newlinepresent and future X-band applications. newlineThis thesis presents different structures of microstrip antenna newlineusing superstrate and DGS in the form of Complementary Split Ring newlineResonator (CSRR), codirectional CSRR, single split non-uniform width newlineCSRR, Triangular SRR and Circular Ring Resonator (CRR). The newlineradiating element can be of any planar geometry such as circular ring, newlinesquare ring etc. Various multiband microstrip antennae are designed, newlinesimulated, fabricated and tested by using Network analyzer. newlineA dual and triple band antenna for S, X and Ku band newlineapplications with wide impedance bandwidth is designed using newlinemetamaterial DGS. The metamaterial property is achieved using CSRR, newlinemodified codirectional CSRR and single split non uniform width CSRR newlinewhich is loaded at the ground plane. This research work started with a newlineix newlinedesign of circular ring microstrip antenna defected with CSRR and newlinefocuses on comparison using FR4 and RT Duroid substrate material. It is newlineobserved that triple band, increased bandwidth and efficiency of 96.3 % newlineat 5.5 and 13.7 GHz and 100 % at 16.1 GHz are the few benefits of CSRR newlineloaded MPA using RT Duroid substrate. newlineA triple and dual band antenna using FR4 substance is designed newlinefor X and Ku band claims by loading the ground with a codirectional newlineCSR
