Abstract: By virtue of the diversified methods of modern electrical power newlinegeneration systems there are diversified forms of electrical power available. newlineThere are different types of electrical loads and they require electrical power newlinein diversified forms as well. Given this scenario, the presence of power newlineelectronic converters has become inevitable Power electronic converters are broadly classified into four groups and the DC to DC converters come under one group. The family of tapped inductor converters belong to the DC to DC converter group. The Watkins newlineJohnson converter and the Inverse Watkins Johnson converter come under the newlinetapped inductor converters family. The bridge type Watkins Johnson converter and the bridge type Inverse Watkins Johnson converter do not use a tapped inductor and they are newlinethe extended versions of the basic Watkins Johnson converter and the Inverse newlineWatkins Johnson converter respectively. The bridge type versions of Watkins newlineJohnson converters can produce a polarity reversible DC voltage output. newlineThis thesis focusses on some of the developments carried out on the newlinebridge type Watkins Johnson converter and the bridge type Inverse Watkins newlineJohnson converter. In order to distinguish between the normal bridge type newlineWatkins Johnson converter from the bridge type Inverse Watkins Johnson newlineconverter, in this thesis, the normal form is referred to as the bridge type newlineForward Watkins Johnson converter. The first contribution of this research is the development of the average state space model of the bridge type Forward Watkins Johnson newlineconverter. A topological modification has been carried out on the bridge type newlineForward Watkins Johnson converter for the purpose of increasing the steady newlinestate voltage gain and this may be treated as the second contribution under this newlineresearch.Further, the bridge type Inverse Watkins Johnson converter, by newlinedefault, lacks the positive buck mode of operation while it can be used in the newlinepositive or negative boost modes and negative buck modes by directly newlinemanipulating the duty cycle.
