Abstract: | ABSTRACT newlineA descriptive study to assess the awareness and practices to prevent needle stick injuries (NSIs) among healthcare workers working in selected hospital at Jaipur Rajasthan in fulfilment of doctoral degree in nursing from the Jaipur National University Jaipur, Rajasthan. newlineThe objectives of the study were to assess the awareness and practices of healthcare workers to prevent NSIs, to association between awareness and practices level and demographic variables. newlineA non-experimental descriptive study quantitative research approach with non-probability convenient sampling is used to collect data from 350 healthcare workers which are working in SMS Hospital, Jaipur, Rajasthan from 21 April 2022 to 20 June 2022. After taking formal permission from authority newlineA self-administered structured questionnaire and checklist were used to collect relevant data. newlineFinding according to characteristics of samples revealed that the majority of healthcare workers i.e., 48% are in the age group 31-40 years, 56.28% were found male, 63.14% samples had diploma course, 34.85% samples having 4-8 years clinical experience, 40% samples were posted in medical ward, 61.42% samples had not attended any in-service education program about prevention of NSIs. newlineFinding revealed that Maximum numbers of HCWs were found to be in average awareness as 71% in male and 69% in female. The poor awareness was observed as 13% in male and 18% in female. The goof awareness is observed almost in equal proportion as 16% in male and 14% in female. newlineFinding also revealed that the majority of healthcare workers found to be in average practices as 65% in male and 63% in female. Poor practice was observed as 17% in male and 20% in female. The good practice is observed in equal proportion as 18% in both male and female. newlineStatistical analysis of data revealed that there was a highly significant relationship of awareness with age and professional qualification while no significant relationship of awareness was found with gender, clinical experience, areas of working . |
