Abstract: | BACKGROUND: - Ayurveda poses two main aims, maintenance of the health of an individual and curing the ailments of the suffering through holistic approach. The formation of whole living world has been explained by the combination of three pillars of physical body, mind and soul. The physical body has been said to be formed from the basic entities called as three Dosha, seven Dhatu and three Mala. The physical body grows and gets nourished by the intake of food. The food that is taken has to be digested by the internal fire (Agni) which is another important entity responsible for the growth and development of the body and maintenance of life of an individual. newlineAtisara is a disease in which watery stools are passed in excess, several times a day, through rectum which arises due to abnormality of Agni. It may be defined as a disease characterized by Atidrava Malapravritti related to Annavaha Srotasa and Purishavaha Srotasa produced by the disturbance in Udakavaha Srotasa.Diarrhea is the frequent and profuse discharge of intestinal contents in loose and fluid form. It occurs due to the increased movement of intestine. newlineArka Kalpana is a liquid preparation obtained by distillation of certain liquids or of drugs soaked in water using the Arka Yantra or any convenient modern distillation apparatus. Distillation means separation of the constituents of the mixture including the liquid by partial vaporization of the mixture with subsequent condensation. The feed liquid is known as distill and the condensed liquid is known as distillate or condensate. newlineIn India, Jiraka have been used for thousands of years as a traditional ingredient of innumerable dishes including kormas and soups and also form an ingredient of several other spice blends. Besides food use, it has also many applications in traditional medicine. In the Ayurvedic system of medicine in India, Krishna Jiraka seeds have immense medicinal value, particularly for digestive disorders.
