Abstract: | Nitrogen containing heterocyclic donor systems and their metal newlinecomplexes are long known to play cardinal roles in governing the newlinebiochemistry1 of both higher and lower living organisms. They newlineconstitute an important part in the composition, structure and function newlineof the metalloenzymes and metalloproteins. They include respiratory newlineproteins like i) Hemoglobin and Myoglobin which consist of one newlinepolypeptide chain of giobin embedded in the iron-porphyrine complex newline(heme group), ii) Electron transfer proteins such as Cytochromes4 which newlinetoo contain iron-porphyrine units, iii) Chlorophylls5 (green pigments in newlineplants used for photosynthesis) contain magnesium-chlorin ring newline(porphine ring with one double bond reduced).iv) Coenzyme such as newlinevitamin Bi2 in which cobalt-corrin ring6 exists and many other enzymes newlinewhich contain M-N bond of N-based heterocycles that are involved in newlineseveral vital functions of the living system. newlineIron (III) complexes. with phenyl-2-pyridylacetonitrile, 2- newlinecyanopyridine and 2-pyridine-aldoxime are found to catalyse the newlinepolymerization of isoprene7. Quite recently, a polypyrrole - ironoxygen newline(PPY- Fe - O) coordination complex8 has been discovered, the newlinestrong and stable intra layer Fe-N coordination of which renders high newlinespecific capacity and high reversibility to its inter layer Fe- O -Fe newlineinteraction that leads to construction of a new type of high performance newlineorganic anode materials for lithium ion batteries. newline |
