Abstract: The research work commenced with the prime focus to study and find a possible methods to mitigate the congestion in electric power transmission system. newlineAt the outset, the problem of congestion and methods of its mitigation were understood and studied. The resources used were publications, lectures of distinguished people in this field and discussion sessions with guide. newlineForm the literature survey, various methods to mitigate congestion is found. Out of all those methods, some of them are implemented in this research work to mitigate congestion on various types of test system. The various systems we have assumed in the work are: newlinei. IEEE 5-Bus transmission system newlineii. IEEE 9-Bus transmission system newlineiii. Modified IEEE 14-Bus transmission system newlineiv. IEEE 30-Bus transmission test system newlinev. 205-Bus Indian transmission system newlineBasically main focus is to use various FACTS Controller to mitigate congestion in the transmission system. For this purpose various techniques and methods has to be implemented. First of all, for the proper placement of Controller, a VSI Index has been used named FVSI Index. This index helps in finding out the weakest bus and weakest line of the system. So, that Controller can be placed in that line to mitigate congestion. newlineIt has been found that congestion in the transmission line can be mitigated by reducing the current from the transmission line. This can be done by varying reactance in the transmission line. For this purpose, series compensation is applied in the line on the smaller system i.e. IEEE 5-Bus transmission system. Then, inductive reactance by using TCSR FACTS Controller is used. One more approach has been used for mitigating congestion in the transmission line by varying phase angle. The phase angle is varied by using TCPAR FACTS Controller. newlineDuring the literature survey, it has been found out that there are various optimization techniques with their inherent merits and demerits have been used to mitigate congestion in the transmission line. So, an optimization technique is used in thi
