dc.description.abstract | Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is the high-level traffic newlinemanagement system that confluences advanced technologies such as newlinecommunication, sensing, computation, and control. The objective of ITS is to newlineenhance the safety, effectiveness, and sustainability of transportation newlinenetworks through conquering traffic congestion and improving drivers newlineexperiences. Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS) is the newlinedomain of ITS that deals with real-time data exchange among vehicles, newlineinfrastructure, and end-users. C-ITS enables advanced applications and newlineservices, including an immense potential to increase comfort, mobility, and newlinesafety. Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication is an essential building newlineblock of C-ITS that equips vehicles to interact with real-time data. newlineV2X supports safety-critical applications by sharing information, newlinesuch as speed, with other entities encircling the vehicle. V2X augments the newlinedriver s perception of potential hazards and benefits in reducing the severity newlineof injuries, accident fatalities, and collisions with other vehicles. The newlinetechnology further intensifies traffic effectiveness by alerting drivers of newlineupcoming traffic, recommending alternative directions to evade traffic, and newlineidentifying available parking spaces. There are several components of V2X, newlineincluding Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I), newlineVehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P), and Vehicle-to-Network (V2N) communications. newlineVarious V2X communication standards have been developed newlineworldwide, including Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC), which newlineuses IEEE 802.11p and cellular-based communications. Most recently, the newlineCellular V2X (C-V2X) has been rapidly gaining global support from the newlinemajority of the automotive shareholders, which supports both short-range newlineV2V communication and long-range communications using cellular networks. newlineC-V2X now become an umbrella term for the vehicle s communication newlinesystem, where information from sensors and other sources travels via highbandwidth, newlinelow-latency, high-reliability links, paving the way to fully newlineautonomous driving. newline newline | |
