Abstract: The utilization of gas sensors to detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is gaining attention in recent times as a non-invasive tool to diagnose chronic diseases and cancers including diabetes, lung and stomach cancer. The emanation of VOCs such as ethanol, acetone, triethylamine, benzene, n-hexane, toluene from exhaled breath was used as biomarkers for diagnosis. VOCs act as biomarkers for detecting a few cancers, including lung and stomach cancer and thus its presence must be detected. These VOCs can also be used to monitor food freshness because of its presence in spoiled foods. Hence it is important to study the interaction of VOCs with sensing material. In order to develop an array of sensors to detect multiple VOCs, it s necessary to study the gas interaction of different VOCs with different types of sensing materials. So, in the thesis, we have studied the influence of gas adsorption on surface photovoltage in various hybrid nanomaterials towards chemical sensing applications newline
