dc.description.abstract | Polymer composites are materials in which a polymer matrix is reinforced with a filler ranging in nano size. The purpose of selecting a nanoparticle is due the reason that nanoparticles exhibit very high aspect ratio, high surface area and are light weight in nature. They exhibit distinct features in the bulk medium as compared to their individual molecular structures. Hence, they are the most suitable materials for reinforcement into a polymer matrix. Nano metal oxides are trending materials due to their technological significance in wide range of applications such as pharmacology, microfabrication, artificial enzymes, gas sensors, nano membrane bioreactor, lubricant additives, optical fibres and many others. Polymer composites are easy to handle and fabricate, lightweight, durable and exhibit superior electrical, mechanical, chemical and optical properties as compared to the parent material. Hence, it is the need of the hour to develop polymer composites that are non-toxic, environmental friendly and easily biodegradable to minimize the already existing solid waste management issues. | |
