Abstract

Economic development assumes much prominence in a developing newlinecountry like India and it has become an integral part of our native policy. Odisha, newlinebeing a backward state inherits the constraints and limitations of Indian economy. newlineThe acceleration of the process of economic development in the state to a great newlineextent depends upon the financial resources and lack of adequate amount of newlinefinancial resources is an impediment in the process of economic development, it newlineis an uncontrovertible fact that the financial institutions in general and institutional newlinecredit agencies in particular play a decisive role in the process of planned newlineeconomic development of the country. newlineFrom the experience of the era of planned economic development, it is newlineclearly revealed that the efforts made in this direction have not yielded the newlineexpected and desired results. It is further revealed that the constraints from newlinewhich the efforts of planned economic development programmes have suffered in newlinethe state have not been mere financial but organizational inadequacies and lack newlineof area specific planning to which coordinated effort of all concerned agencies newlinecould be directed. It has been well recognized that economic development in a newlinedistorted economy like Odisha can not be achieved unless planning is made built= newlinein area specific alongwith need based programmes designed for rural newlinedevelopment. newline
