e postulate on parallels was in ambiguity of the final solution of a problem that must have pre occupied Greek mathematics for a long period before Euclid Hans Freudenthal 1905 1990 In 300 B C Euclid of Alexandria wrote The Elements which is the first scientific text on earth Throughout the 13 chapters of Elements Euclid introduced and assumed the following five axioms to prove constructions and propositions To draw a straight line from one point to another point To produce a finite straight line continuously in a straight line To describe a circle with any center and radius That all right angles are equal to one another If a straight line falling on two straight lines makes the interior angles on the same side less than two right angles and if produced indefinitely meet on the side on which are the angles less than the two right angles
