Abstract: Ethos is a powerful conception. It changes with the passage of time and newlinesocial reality. We can see the reflection of this concept ethos in newlinecontemporary literature of the period. Ethos as a moral value belongs to a newlineparticular group of society. This research study presents re visioning of newlinefemale ethos in Indian English writing of Amitav Ghosh. In Indian English newlineliterature writer s portrayed women and their experience in male dominating newlinesocial orders with a contemplative accord. Amitav Ghosh s women newlinecharacters depict cautiously and they are the main spirit of his novels. Ghosh newlinenever portrayed his female characters in a general picture of Sita and Savitri; newlineinstead of this his women characters in the novel represent the revolutionary newlinespirit. His female character depiction is very realistic and rational. Amitav newlineGhosh through his depiction of female characters in novels has attempted to newlineseek out enthusiastic universe of women that abet readers with newlinecomprehension of woman like rational power and reasonable thinking. As a newlinepart of this, in this research study Amitav Ghosh s three novels The Glass newlinePalace, The Hungry Tide and Sea Of Poppies have been selected for the newlinestudy of female ethos in Indian writings in English. newline
