dc.description.abstractLand acquisition refers to the process through which the central government or a state government purchases private land for the purposes of industrialization, infrastructure development or urbanization and then compensates the landholders and provides rehabilitation and resettlement. The main philosophy behind this act is what is known as the power of the state of eminent domain . That means all land which are not privately owned are owned by the state. The present study is based on primary and secondary data. Primary data is collected from affected landholders (lost land due to land acquisition) and control group (Include farming households whose land was not acquired, but who are live in similar socio-economic milieu and are currently engaged in agricultural activities and follow the same cropping pattern as the affected landholders) landholders in four districts (Jhajjar, Gurugram, Yamunanagar and Hisar) of Haryana during March to August 2018. The study examines the impact of land acquisition on socio-economic status of landholders, utilisation pattern of compensation money due land acquisition, to extent of rehabilitation and resettlement of affected landholders and to investigate the impact of land acquisition on occupation pattern of affected landholders. Landholders newlineowned 1244 acres of total land before the acquisition of land, out of which 602.5 newlineacres of land was acquired from 200 landholders. Around 6.5 acres of land were newlinesold by the landholders after the acquisition of land. Landholders purchased 305 newlineacres of land and currently they own a total of 940 acres of land. newline newline
