Abstract: The objective of this work involves the synthesis and applications of metallosurfactants as corrosion inhibitors. Six different combinations of metallosurfactants have been carried out, where in, role of metallosurfactant (in solution or film), role of metal ion, hydrocarbon chain, variation of bacteria and comparison of different substrates have been done. At first a Hafnium based metallosurfactant (HfCPC) was synthesized to target the corrosion reactions taking place on surface of pure iron substrate in the presence of 3.5% NaCl solution. Also, the efficiency of HfCPC to inhibit the MIC caused by mixed culture of Summary 199 marine vibrio H. salinarium and H. morrhuae was assessed. These studies were carried out by adding the HfCPC/inhibitor in the corrosive solution and exposing the iron substrate to the solution of inhibitor and corrosive electrolytes. Afterwards, the effect of coating of a water insoluble AuCTAB metallosurfactant on the corrosion behaviour of galvanized steel surface was checked in presence of sterile artificial sea water (ASW) and ASW inoculated with marine vibrio H. salinarium and H. morrhuae. The antibiofilm ability of the AuCTAB coatings was also checked against these marine bacteria. In the next chapter, the carbon steel corrosion was targeted by synthesizing a series of three CPC based metallosurfactants using different metal salts viz. cobalt, nickel and copper chloride. The marine corrosion of CoCPC, NiCPC and CuCPC coated CS was checked after three days exposure to ASW in presence and absence of P. aeruginosa. For this, the surface of SS 316L and Ti-6Al-4V alloys was coated with Mo based metallosurfactant. The anticorrosive activity of the alloys was monitored in corrosive media composed of PBS saline. The antibacterial activity of the coating was checked against S. aureus. newline
