Abstract: | The thesis work presents the findings of the effectiveness of National Health Mission newlinework as a social initiative of Government of India and being implemented by State newlinegovernments; with focus on the effectiveness in the state of Uttarakhand. The study newlinefocuses the results before NHM and its effectiveness till 2017. newlineIt is observed that Uttarakhand as a state has a wide geographic diversity and higher newlinethan National average literacy rate; Rural Urban divide is further influenced by newlineadditional complicated parameter of Geographical conditions. NHM a flagship newlineprogram appears to be implemented effectively in the state; however success in terms newlineof IMR and MMR was missed narrowly. MMR of 172 was achieved in 2015 whereas newlineIMR of 31 against target of 28. newlineAll 13 districts were studied to know the perception of the people of Uttarakhand, newlineAwareness level of the people of the state is high. However there is a difference of perception in the service provider and beneficiaries. The objectives of NHM are well newlineknown to the people and lack of motivation was found to be one of the constraints of newlinethe program. newlineService providers had agreed to the tune of 49.23% to agree that the infrastructure; work newlineenvironment and facilities have improved due to this program, however increased work load and responsibilities was also observed by 61% of the service providers. More trainings and awareness campaigns were needed was opinion of around 69.23% of service providers. Not a very high percentage agreed that NHM has increased the newlinequality care of Neo Natals. Also reach to remote areas and that too hills: 43.67% people were not sure if services were able to reach there. newlineOverall effectiveness of the NHM program is good and quite close to the targets of IMR newlineand MMR. Few further corrective and motivational steps in this direction could make the targets meet newline |
