A Descriptive study of ears and earprints in young adult Gujjar population of District Solan Himachal Pradesh Forensic and Anthropological aspects

Abstract

The present cross-sectional study titled A descriptive study of ear and ear prints in young adult Gujjar population of District Solan, Himachal Pradesh Forensic and Anthropological aspects attempted to study the anthropometric and anthroposcopic features of the ear and ear prints so that some conclusions can be drawn regarding the uniqueness and individualization of the ear and ear prints. The purpose of the present study was to explore the potential of ear as a biometric tool. Therefore, different aspects of the ear were incorporated in the study, including ear, ear prints, and ear photographs. The use of all these aspects was explored to develop a simple and equivalent system of biometrics like fingerprints. The present study assessed the variability in ear anthropometry and anthroposcopy, the manner in which these features have been impressed as an ear print, the factors affecting the impression of different anthroposcopic features, the correlation of the impressions of anthroposcopic features, and finally the superimposition of the anthroposcopic features of the ear and ear prints. The results finally conclude that the human ear and ear print have a potential for showing individualistic characteristics and unique features which may be used in personal identification in forensic examinations. newline
