Abstract: | newline A study entitled, Economic impact analysis of Farmer Producers Organizations on vegetable production and their market linkages in Jammu region was conducted in Jammu region of JandK (U.T) with the objective of comparative analysis of cost and return, resource use efficiency, technical efficiency, market linkages and constraints in vegetable cultivation for FPO members and non members. Primary data was collected from 300 sampled farmers selected by using multistage simple random sampling technique where 150 members were selected randomly without replacement through proportional allocation from list of members prepared for each district namely Udhampur, Reasi and Doda, where vegetables based FPOs were present, and equal number of non-members were selected from each district. Marketing data was collected from 45 market intermediaries of Narwal Mandi-Jammu, Udhampur, Chenani, Reasi and Doda market. Simple tabular analysis was used in cost and returns analysis, while Cobb Douglas production function and Stochastic Frontier analysis was used to examine the resource use and technical efficiency, respectively however, constraints were analysed using Garrett ranking. Per acre cost of Brinjal, Potato and Radish was lesser for members by 6.92, 10.63 and 9.10 per cent, respectively, whileas yield, gross returns, net returns and return per rupee, had increased among members compared to non-members. Resource-use efficiency analysis revealed that, overall R2 value among members and non members in Brinjal was 0.84 and 0.78 while it was 0.87, and 0.83 in case of potato, and 0.78 in radish for both members and non members. In case of members plant protection chemical and irrigation were significant with regression coefficients 1.52 and 0.16 in brinjal production. However, for non-members manures and fertilizer, irrigation and plant protection chemical were significant at 0.43, 0.29 and 0.22 value of regression coefficient. In potato production, plant protection chemical turned out significant (1.13) for members, whil |
