Effect of psycho educative intervention on Adherence to treatment among persons with Bipolar affective disorder BPAD

Abstract

The present investigation was conducted to determine the effect of psycho-educative newlineintervention on adherence to treatment among persons with Bipolar Affective Disorder newline(BPAD). Objectives: The primary objectives of the study were to develop and validate a psycho-educative intervention for persons with BPAD and their caregivers and to find the effect of psychoeducative intervention on adherence to treatment among persons with BPAD. The secondary objective was to find the effect of psycho-educative intervention on knowledge, attitude, quality of life, disability and burden. Method: An evaluative approach was considered for this study since the aim was to find the effect of psycho-educative intervention on adherence to treatment. A randomized controlled newlinetrial design was used with a sample size of 50; 24 in experimental and 26 in control group. Four and five sessions of psycho-education was conducted for the caregiver and patient in experimental group after the baseline assessment and the outcome was measured immediately after the psycho-educative intervention and at 1 month and 3 months. The same assessment was done for the control group without a psycho educative intervention. The various data newlinecollection instruments used in the study were Socio demographic proforma, Knowledge newlinequestionnaire, Scale of patient?s attitude towards BPAD, Scale of family caregivers attitude towards BPAD, WHOQOL- BREF Scale, WHO DAS II , Burden Assessment Schedule of newlineSCARF and YMRS/ HDRS.
