Abstract: The present investigation entitled Studies on genetic components for some metric traits in brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) was proposed to conduct at the Vegetable Research Farm, Department of Vegetable Science Kalyanpur, C. S. Azad. University of Agriculture and Technology, Kalyanpur Kanpur (U.P.) India during kharif, 2017-18 and 2018-19. Sixteen diverse parents of brinjal were crossed in a line to tester fashion for generating experimental material. All the Sixteen parents, two check and their 48 hybrids were grown in Randomized Block design with three replications. Observations were recorded on the 15 characters viz., days to 50 % flowering, number of flowers per inflorescence, leaf length (cm), leaf width (cm), number of primary branches per plant, plant height (cm), number of fruit per clusters, fruit length (cm), fruit circumference (cm), number of fruits per plant, average fruit weight (g), fruit yield per plant (kg), specific gravity, dry matter content and TSS. The data were analysed to fulfil the following objectives: (i) to estimate the extent of heterosis for yield and yield attributing traits, (ii) to estimate the general and specific combining ability variances and their effects, (iii) to estimate gene action for yield and its component traits, (iv) to estimate heritability in narrow sense and genetic advance in percent of mean (v) to estimate extent of variability of different attributes. newlineAnalysis of variance revealed that the differences among treatments were highly significant for majority of the characters studied in both the years and pooled. Partitioning of treatment variances into parents, crosses, lines and testers revealed highly significant differences among the parents and crosses for majority of the characters. The best five F1 s showing standard heterosis over standard variety in positive direction were KS-8307 × Azad B-4 (85.78%), KS-6301 × Azad Kranti (83.89%), KS-5804× Azad B-3 (81.52%), KS-8204 × Azad B-4 (63.98%) and KS-5804× Azad B-2 (55.45%). newlineThe analysis of variance
