Abstract: | newline Abstract newlineThis PhD research study was aimed at investigating the antioxidant and antibacterial activities of phenols extracted from Bixa orellana fruit coat. The study was carried out using various methods, including DPPH assay, FRAP assay, and agar diffusion assay. newlineThe results obtained from the DPPH assay revealed that the phenols extracted from Bixa orellana fruit coat had significant antioxidant activity. The FRAP assay results also showed a strong antioxidant potential of the extract. The results of the agar diffusion assay revealed that the extract had antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. newlineThe study further investigated the phytochemicals present in the extract and identified the presence of phenolic compounds such as tannins, flavonoids, and coumarins. The study also investigated the mechanism of action of the extract against bacteria and found that it disrupted the bacterial cell membrane. newlineThe conclusion drawn from the study was that the phenols extracted from Bixa orellana fruit coat exhibited strong antioxidant and antibacterial activities, which can be attributed to the presence of various phenolic compounds. The extract can be used as a potential natural source of antioxidants and antibacterial agents. newlineThe outcomes of this study contribute to the understanding of the potential applications of phenols from Bixa orellana fruit coat in the food and pharmaceutical industries. The findings of this study can also pave the way for further research on the development of natural products with antioxidant and antibacterial properties. newlineThe antimicrobial potential of phenols extracted from Bixa orellana fruit coat was investigated in this PhD research study. The study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the extract against different bacterial strains and to identify the active compounds responsible for the observed activity. newlineThe antimicrobial potential of the extract was evaluated using the agar diffusion assay against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. The results showed that the extract had significant antibacterial activity against both types of bacteria, with some strains being more susceptible than others. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the extract were also determined. newlineThe active compounds responsible for the observed antibacterial activity were identified using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The analysis revealed the presence of various phenolic compounds, including tannins, flavonoids, and coumarins. newlineIn conclusion, the results of this study suggest that phenols extracted from Bixa orellana fruit coat have significant antimicrobial potential, which can be attributed to the presence of various phenolic compounds. The extract can be considered a promising natural source of antibacterial agents and may have potential applications in the development of novel antimicrobial drugs. newlineThe outcomes of this study contribute to the understanding of the potential of natural products as antimicrobial agents and can pave the way for further research on the development of natural products with antibacterial properties. newlineThe outcomes of this study contribute to the understanding of the bioactive compounds present in phenols from Bixa orellana fruit coat and can pave the way for further research on the development of novel natural products with potent antioxidant and antibacterial properties. |
