dc.description.abstractThe present research study entitled Christian missionaries in Colonial Punjab: Religious Activities and Social Work is an endeavour to identify the Christian Missions which were established in the Punjab and study the challenges faced by them. This study aims to examine the role of Christian missionaries in social, religious and economic life of Punjab and their role in the activity of conversion. After their arrival in the Punjab, the Christian missionaries undertook a lot of initiatives, particularly in the field of the Zenana or women education. This thesis examines the contribution of Christian missionaries in the field of Zenana education. The administrative activities pertaining to the role and management of the churches, the employees and the various activities undertaken by them have been examined at length in this thesis. The impact of activities of the missionaries in the society of Punjab has also been dealt with in this thesis. The medical and social service activities which were undertaken by the Christian missionaries, laid the foundation for a health care and public welfare system in Punjab. This aspect has been examined all along with the lasting impact of the activities of the Christian missions on the religion and society of the Punjab. newline
