Social Background Education and Occupational Aspirations of Youth a Study of Pulwama Town J and K

Abstract

Youth have concrete form of aspiration, like- occupational, Professional, marital and career. The present study entitled Social Background, Education and Occupational Aspirations of Youth (Astudy of Pulwama Town) JandK focused on key determinants of young people s subsequent professional choice, level of qualification and future planning. Aspiration of an individual may be valid index of subjects feeling of success or failure in a situation where he is free to change his goal from one trial to the next. Occupational aspiration of a mature person is very much correlated with his/ her educational attainment. The study also tries to find out how far present generation in colleges adjust with available infrastructure and adopt methodology to reach their occupational aspiration at Pulwama town in Kashmir. There is great variety of aspiration among the college students studying in different courses. The notion of level of aspiration is invoked in reference to the goal striving behaviour of an individual presented with a task, outcome of which can be measured on an achievement scale. The study unfolded many explorations among which the main findings are ahead. From our study, it was observed that most of respondents agreed that the issue of unemployment impacts the education of youth very much. The study found that the problem of unemployment de motivates the young generation towards their educational dreams as they meagerly find any future adjustment within the prevailing scenario of society where the issue of unemployment is at its climax. Further, the study also revealed some more facts about one of the most prominent social issue i.e. political unrest where a big majority of respondents did agree that the political unrest prevailing since decades in the valley has highly impacted the education of the youth. The study disclosed that more and often, the educational institutions and internet facilities in the valley remain closed and due the political turmoil.
