Abstract: | This geographical study aims to analyse the changing population ecology of Bhopal city and its surroundings. Bhopal city has witnessed significant population dynamics over the past few decades. This study investigates the spatial and temporal variations in population patterns, including population growth, density, migration and urbanization trends in Bhopal and its surrounding areas. It uses quantitative and qualitative methods, including census data, demographic surveys, satellite imagery, and field surveys to understand population dynamics and factors influencing them. The findings reveal several Key trends include rapid growth, migration, urbanization, and socio-economic development. The study highlights the impact of population growth on the environment, resources, and infrastructure, as well as disparities in socio-economic development. The expansion of urban areas has encroached upon agricultural land, diminishing the agricultural productivity of the region. The research identifies several factors influencing the changing population ecology include economic opportunities, government policies, transportation infrastructure, socio-cultural factors, and environmental factors like water availability, pollution levels, and natural disasters. The findings have implications for urban planning and policy formulation, emphasizing the need for effective strategies to manage population growth, mitigate environmental impact, and ensure equitable development.
