Abstract: | MAHARNA PRTAP UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE AND TECHNOLOGY newlineCOLLEGE OF COMMUNITY AND APPLIED SCIENCES newlineDepartment of Food Science and Nutrition newlinePh.D. Thesis (2022) newlineTopic: Assessment of compensatory health beliefs existing amidst hypertensive newlinepatients and impact of nutrition intervention on their blood pressure newlineABSTRACT newlineAlthough many advances in the treatment have been made, success in controlling newlineblood pressure is still less. Control of hypertension is important as its progression can newlinelead to adverse heart diseases. The Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee newlineon Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure (JNC7) newlineidentified six self-care activities related to weight management, diet, physical newlineactivity, moderate alcohol consumption, cessation of smoking, and following newlineantihypertensive medication regimens. This lays emphasis on behavioral counseling, newlinediet therapies, physical activity, and other health behaviors to treat hypertension. The newlinepresent study was undertaken with the objective of assessing the health beliefs and newlineimpact of the intervention package on the knowledge and practices of hypertension newlinepatients. A Compensatory health belief Questionnaire was developed through a newlineGoogle form which was uploaded online to assess the health beliefs among newlinehypertensive patients. The beliefs were shortlisted and reliability testing was done. A newlinefinal 25 items questionnaire was divided into 6 categories: Substance abuse, Diet, newlineMedication, Attitude, Stress, and Physical activity was developed. The questionnaire newlinewas later used on study participants. The study was an experimental control design. newlineThe samples were collected from Maharana Bhopal Government Hospital, RNT newlineMedical College during the OPD hours and with the help of local doctors through newlinepurposive sampling and were divided into two groups: the experimental group (n=50) newlineand the control group (n=50). Participants in the age group 40 60 years with no newlineserious co-morbidity and a history of hypertension with at least 2 years were selected. |
