Abstract: The prevalence of balance, gait, muscle strength and range of motion deficits increases with age and is associated with the increased incidence of falls seen in the elderly population; these falls are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. it is estimated that the prevalence of gait disorders in community- residing elderly adults aged 65 and older is 35%. Additionally, impairments of balance and gait have been implicated in increased risks of falls. In adults aged 65 and older, the estimated annual prevalence of falls is 28%.Falls are associated with significant morbidity and mortality in the elderly: they are the most common cause of accidental death. The senior population is rapidly increasing in both industrialised and developing nations (Kannus P, 2005). The most prevalent health issues affecting the elderly include musculoskeletal ailments. In this demographic, the ensuing loss of freedom and movement can be very painful (Wolff JL, 2002). Early findings showed a substantial percentage of people presenting with lower ankle muscular strength, which has been proposed as a potential contributing reason for poor balance (Bosien WR, 1955, Staples OS, 1972). However, health care providers pay less attention to the Geriatric Population. newline
