dc.description.abstractA node in a Mobile Ad hoc Network MANET must rely on an energy source typically a battery to execute all its tasks The main objective is to design energy efficient algorithms both at the Medium Access Control MAC and the network layer The energy efficient designs such as MP based and RE ROR algorithms at MAC layer are to reduce the unnecessary overhearing and rebroadcast based on the mobility and residual energy of the nodes in MANET The energy conservation is achieved by integrating the 802 11 Power Saving Mechanism PSM with Dynamic Source Routing DSR However DSR collects route information via overhearing Therefore allowing no overhearing may critically deteriorate the performance of the underlying routing protocol while unconditional overhearing may offset the advantage of using PSM Hence in MAC overhearing and rebroadcast reduction is achieved through mobility parameter which is predicted based on newlineReceived Signal Strength RSS The number of nodes that overhear is decided based on probability which is determined based on RSS and RSS threshold newlineen_US
