Abstract: Optical fiber has become indispensable in todays communication technology as it completely replaces coaxial cable and other transmission lines Fiber optic analog links are finding increased importance in the areas of WLAN signal transmission CATV cellular mobile communication networks phased array antennas and antenna remoting In these applications RF signals from remote antenna modulate the optical carrier either by directly varying the current in the laser diode or by external modulation In mobile communication networks this approach reduces the number of equipments in the base station and thereby minimizes the system complexity This technique also helps to provide efficient wireless connectivity in tunnels basements of large buildings where the direct wireless access is not possible newline
